Math was not a subject I worried about teaching when we first started our homeschool journey years ago. Why? I love math! That was my favorite subject in school when I was young. Believe it or not I was planning on being an accountant, but the Lord had different plans for my life.
Guess what? I’m so glad He did. So when we decided that we would homeschool our children it never crossed my mind that math would be a subject that I would have problems teaching years down the road.

When Math wasn’t enjoyable anymore.
As we jumped into homeschooling our oldest son math was an enjoyable subject. But as he got older we started having problems with math. The problem I was having wasn’t that I didn’t know the material to teach him it was that my teaching style was clashing with his learning style.
That’s when I realized how important it is to know both your learning style and your children’s learning styles because it makes a world of a difference when choosing curriculum. It also can save you a whole lot of money on curriculum by knowing your child’s learning style.
So I had to adjust and begin to research math curriculums to see which one would be a good fit for him. But as I kept on looking and trying new things I did notice that he did very well with online curriculums. That led me on a search to find an online math curriculum that my son would enjoy doing.
Discovering Teaching Textbook 3.0
During my research one of the curriculums that kept coming up when I would ask for math recommendations from my friends was Teaching Textbooks.
I had consider Teaching Textbooks in the past but I wasn’t sure if it would have been a great fit using the books and discs. When I found out they upgraded and now had an online version of the program I was excited to give it a try. That’s when I finally jumped right in!
What is Teaching Textbooks 3.0?
Teaching Textbooks 3.0 is an online math curriculum subscription that includes lectures, practice questions, lessons, quizzes and bonus rounds. It’s perfect for both independent learners and those learning to be independent.
This online version of the program includes everything you would find in the physical version. In the online version the textbook is included as an ebook which you can print out. That’s a perfect option for those that like to limit the usage of screens or like their child to work out the problems on paper.
I love how it works on a variety of devices like MAC, Windows, Chromebook and mobile devices like tablets and phones.

Here are my top 4 reasons why I’m sold!
I’m so glad that we jumped right in and tested out Teaching Textbooks 3.0 and that it was a big hit with my son. Let me share with you my 4 top reasons why I was sold!
It’s an online program
It’s an online program which is perfect for my oldest son because he does very well with digital curriculums. I loved that we have access to the lessons when we are on the go and are able to access them on our tablet and even on our phones making it easy for us to stay on top of our math lessons.
Perfect for busy moms
As a busy mom with littles I needed a system that would teach, correct, and grade the lessons for me. It’s such a relief to know that’s taken care of for me…which is one less thing to worry about. I love that I was able to log in and see the grades and have access to each individual lesson and see what questions he missed so I could review those questions with him.
Works for all learning styles
My son is a kinesthetic learner so he is consistently on the move. So I love that Teaching Textbooks caters to all the different learning styles. It provides them the visual aspect of watching the video lessons, the audio aspect of listening to the lesson, the verbal aspect which is the interactive part of the lesson that asks them questions which leads to the kinesthetic aspect which requires them to type in their answers. I just love this!!
It’s Flexible
This is an important characteristic of any curriculum I use because I like to customize them to meet the individual needs of my sons. For example, in addition to all that I’ve already mentioned above I can also…
- Print out the grade book for my records.
- Reset questions, lessons, and tests if I need too.
- Pause a subscription for up to 90 days total (a week at a time) for when we go on vacation, take breaks or a life changing event occurs that causes us to step back from our lessons. (We have used this feature a couple of times already.)
- Request an extension if a special circumstance occurs where my child needs extra time to complete a level after the 12 month subscription has ended.
My son’s review of Teaching Textbook 3.0 online program.
There are three things my son really liked about the Teaching Textbook 3.0 and they are as follows…
- He loved being able to customize his background and choose his “buddy”. Little characters that they can choose to cheer them on when they are doing their lessons.
- He liked having access to his grade book because he likes to know how he is doing with his lessons.
- He loved the interactive lessons. Where he was able to actually click and interact with the lesson to answer questions and get feedback before getting to the actual daily problems. He preferred that over just watching the a video lesson and then answering questions. He helped him understand the lesson and keep him interested.
Here is what he had to say…
“I have learned a lot with Teaching Textbooks and enjoy doing my math lessons because it’s fun, easy and interactive. It’s cool how I can customize my background and my buddy that cheers me on while I do my assignments. I really have enjoyed this math program”
How much does it cost?
Here is the break down of the cost for the different levels.
Math 3, Math 4 and Math 5 – Cost is $43.08 per student for 12 months
Math 6 and Math 7 – Cost is $55.08 per student for 12 Months
Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus – Cost is $67.08 per student for 12 Months
But given all the great features I believe it’s worth it for a full year of a math.
They also have an amazing deal for large families!
If you have 4-8 children you can get a 12 month subscription for all of them for only $199.08 (which works out to $16.59 a month) for a full 12 months subscription for all your kiddos!
Now that’s an amazing deal!!
Are you excited to try it out yourself?
I encourage you to give Teaching Textbooks a try. It is definitely a stress-free way of learning Math and a great way to keep up with Math especially when you have little ones or multiples to teach.
You can try out their free trial because if you are like me you like to try things out before you spend the money. I love that the free trial does not require a credit card and does work for the first 15 lessons with no time limit. You may try any level or all of the levels. Isn’t that great?!?
But before you sign up I highly recommend that you have your child take the placement test to make sure you sign up for the correct level. Teaching Textbooks is based more on knowledge level than grade level so don’t skip the placement test.
I also have to mention that when you sign up for the free trial and go through the first 15 lessons and decide you want to purchase the subscription your child’s work won’t be lost-you can transfer the lessons they completed over and just keep on going. Check out their Free Trial FAQs for more information.
In closing Teaching Textbooks 3.0…
